DO-2 Casing Heads The Downing DO-2 is a straight-bore casing head that accepts either of two heavy duty interchangeable hangers. Each of these hangers (DO-1 and DO-2) can support weight beyond the joint strength of the pipe itself, with minimum casing deflection. Both can be lowered through blowout preventers.
The DO-2’s straight bore prevents test plugs from wedging when pressure is applied, reduces maintenance costs, avoids damage to sealing area by drill bits and permits hanging more casing weight.
These casing heads are usually furnished with two 2" line pipe threaded outlets, but larger outlets and flanged end outlets can be provided if desired. Bottoms of casing heads can be female or slip-on type for welding.
When using bowl protector in DO-2 casing heads, a hold down flange with lock screws can be furnished.
DOL-2 CASING HEADS DOL-2 (“L” designates locking pins) is the same as the DO-2, but also has locking pins located in the top flange to enable the user to lock in a bore protector without using a hold down flange. All internal components (slip assemblies, packoffs, bore protectors, test plugs) usable in the DO-2 casing heads may also be used in the DOL-2 casing heads.
DOWNING CASING SPOOLS DO-2 The DO-2 casing spools have the same top bowl configuration and operations capabilities as the DO-2 casing heads. The bottom bowl configuration allows the use of all Downing standard secondary seals with bit guides.
The Downing line includes Plug Type Testers and Bowl Protector Retrieving Tools to fit all nominal sizes of casing head bodies and tubing heads, and are available with any standard tool joint. The test Plug is assembled in the drill string and lowered to its seat in the casing head or spool body. Pipe rams of the preventers are then closed test pressure is applied below the rams. Blind rams can be tested in the same manner after removing the drill string.
Other casing head accessories include Retrievable Wear Bushings which protect the inner contour of casing head bodies or spools during drilling operations.
When Wear Bushings are used, either hold down screws in the top flange of the casing head body or a hold-down flange with hold down screws is required.
DO-2 Bore Protector
The Downing line includes Plug Type Testers and Bowl Protector Retrieving Tools to fit all nominal sizes of casing head bodies and tubing heads, and are available with any standard tool joint.
DO-1 SLIP ASSEMBLY The DO-1 slip assembly consists of slip segments and slip bowl which can easily be wrapped around the casing. The DO-1 casing hanger must be run in conjunction with the DOH-1 primary packoff to effect an annular seal since the DO-1 slip assembly has no automatic seal.
DOH-1 PRIMARY PACKOFF The DOH-1 primary seal, used in conjunction with the DO-1 casing hanger, provides a positive annulus packoff after the casing has been suspended and cut off.
DO-2 SLIP PACKOFF ASSEMBLY The DO-2 slip packoff assembly combines packoff, slip bowl and slips into a single unit. The packoff automatically seals the casing annulus below the slips when casing load is applied, thus allowing annulus packoff before removing blowout preventer and cutting casing. This wraparound hanger is easy to install. Simple construction and few parts make the DO-2 easy and economical to repair, and the individual tapered slip bowl reduces damage to the casing head bore.
TYPE DO-6 TUBING HEADS The Downing type DO-6 tubing head is a tapered-bore head. It is available with API top and bottom flanges, or with threaded or slip-on type bottom for welding. The common outlet choice is 2" AP1 LP threaded. Larger outlets are available on request. All studded outlets are prepared to accept V-R valve removing plugs. This feature lets you replace full-opening valves under pressure.
API flanged blowout preventers can be placed directly on top flanges. All hangers for the DO-6 will pass through full-opening preventers.
The DO-6 tubing head has lockdown screws strong enough to hold down all styles of Downing tubing hangers and provide the additional compression necessary to activate the annulus packing. Flanged bottom tubing heads are available with “D-O,” “D-4" or “D-P” secondary seal preps. All flanges have test ports for testing the secondary seal and the primary seal of the casing head below.
D-16 Stripper Rubber The D-16 stripper rubber is used for running or pulling tubing with medium or low pressure. When installed in the tubing head, it serves as an annular packoff.
DO-6 Tubing Hanger The DO-6 tubing hanger is a threaded mandrel hanger with packing rings for annulus packoff.
DT-5 Tubing Hanger The DT-5 tubing hanger is a slick-joint wrap-around hanger which can be wrapped around any joint of tubing, not requiring a polished joint. The DT-5 can be lowered through BOP equipment and locked in place, thus allowing BOP equipment to be removed while keeping the well under control at all times. The upper section of the Christmas tree is installed on tubing threads or on a DO-2 coupling. This permits the operator to maintain control of the well while manipulating the tubing to set the packer. The DT-5 tubing hanger offers the advantage of holding pressure from both top and bottom.
DOWNING DO-TC TUBING HANGERS The Downing DS-1 is a slick joint wraparound tubing hanger which does not require a polished joint, and will hold pressure from both sides.
DO3 EXTENDED NECK HANGER The Downing DO-3 threaded hanger has an integral compression-type annulus seal that is actuated by lock down screws. Extended seal neck with interference-type seals isolates the tubing head/adapter connection from well pressure and provides for control line porting if required.
DP Packoff Installs in bottom preparation of casing spools and tubing heads. The packoff is held in place by an easily-installed snap ring.
Provides a pressure-energized secondary seal
Available in different ID and OD combinations to serve as a reducer bushing to adapt casing spools and tubing heads to different casing sizes.
DOWNING DO-TC TUBING HEADS The Downing DO-TC tubing head is full opening and features a straight bore design which is compatible with a variety of DWE tubing hangers. DO-TC tubing heads accept either D-4 or DP secondary seals. The DO-TC tubing heads are available in working pressures up to 20,000 PSI, and sizes to meet all requirements.
DOWNING DUAL COMPLETION TUBING HEADS The DO-TCD tubing head is the most versatile completion head. With retractable pins, it may be used for single or dual completion.
In addition to the DO-TCD dual hanger, it will accept all hangers that fit in the DO-TC tubing head as well.
DOWNING DO-2 ADAPTER FLANGES The DO-2 single completion adapter design utilizes the Type DO-2 hanger coupling with back pressure valve threads. The adapter and coupling are designed for use with 2 3/8 or larger tubing sizes. The hanger coupling, with threaded back pressure valve in place, can be run through the blow-out preventers and landed on a DS-1 wraparound tubing hanger. This provides complete pressure control while blow-out preventers are removed and the tree installed. The back pressure valve can be removed through the Christmas tree with a hand-operated pulling tool if no pressure exists, or with a lubricator if under pressure. The Christmas tree with the adapter body attached is installed by rotating onto the external Acme threads of the hanger coupling. The tubing can be moved up and down between upsets for circulation under pressure if necessary.
The DO-2 is equipped with a test port for the purpose of testing all seals between casing and tubing at the Christmas tree flange.
